"Right before the civil war, the bank ordered from the american bank note company, this series of notes to be printed for them.. The plates were made and approved and the notes ordered... however - the american civil war started and the ABNC decided that it was located in the north so it could not supply the southern banks with notes... so the notes were not printed by the abnc.. and at the end of the war, the bank, which was in richmond was destroyed and ceased business...... The original banknote plate for these notes was sold by the abnc... the buyer then had an old time printer, with a screw press and the original plates make the restrikes...... so the notes are from the original plate just as the abnc would have printed them."
